Les Sagnes, Pontarion (Creuse)
[Not marked on 1:25.000 Sheet/Feuille 2230 O]
Here are the remains of a second-century (Gallo-Roman) necropolis,
where dozens of stone cylinders with lids - most of them now removed to the
museum at Limoges -
sunk into the ground, contained miniature cooking-utensils, eye make-up applicators
and small blue glass vases
accompanied by the calcified and ground-up bones of the ?women whose special
cemetery it might have been.
