Ballynoe, county Down.

J 481 404 - Sheet 21

Nearest town: Downpatrick

A naturally- cupmarked stone on the S side of the circle -
one of several stones with solution-pits, natural grooves, and striations.

These stones are almost all of Silurian shale, which once covered the volcanic Mountains of Mourne to the W.
But deliberately-chosen stones of granite are placed significantly but not quite at the cardinal points. There is also a sandstone block in the NE segment.
