Two small circles and one tiny cairn-in-a-saucer out of
the 7 circles and 9 rows revealed at this site -
the stones of the rows being from a few centimetres to 1.8 metres high. Burials
and kists were found in some of the larger cairns.
One stone circle is filled with hundreds of small stones set upright.
At some stage peat started to form over the site,
and it may conceivably be that the cairns and rows were erected in a futile
propitiatory
attempt to restore fertility to the soil by attracting back the fading sun.
