Drumena, county Down
J 305 336 - Sheet 21
Nearest village: Castlewellan
On a ridge at a height of 220 metres, overlooking Lough Island Reavy,
a small round cairn (bounded by modern field-walls on 2 sides)
contains a kist 60 cms deep whose capstone has been slid to one side allowing
an interior view.
Click on the picture to see a slightly larger kist at Carrowmore, county Sligo.
Below is a kist with its crouched burial and Otherworld-food bowl preserved
in the National Museum, Dublin.
This would, of course, have had a large, probably flat, roof-slab.
Such tombs (especially their contents) are very fragile.
