Behind a housing development called Deerpark, to the N of the Carrickmacross
road (R 178) and a short distance E of the M1 motorway,
this flat outcrop (almost underneath electrical transmission lines) is remarkable
-
firstly, for having been discovered only in December 2020,
secondly, for featuring a spiral.
Photographs by Pàdraig Cumiskey.
The rock as it was before the petroglyphs were found by Pàdraig
Cumiskey.
The rock laid bare by Pàdraig Cumiskey.
The straight line of cupmarks suggest san attempt to quarry
the rock in Neolithic times
so that it could be taken away and used in a passage tomb.
There is a blocked souterrain in the same field.
